Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s soccer earns third straight 1-0 win to stay undefeated in NCAC

GRANVILLE, Ohio (October 23, 2021) – The Denison University women's soccer team needed a goal by Amy Chiero in the 53rd minute to help lift the Big Red to a 1-0 victory over Wittenberg University during its final home match of the regular season on Saturday on Barclay-Thomsen Field.

After the Big Red were outshot 9-4 by Wittenberg in the first half, Denison ramped it up in the second half by outshooting the Tigers 11-3 and firing 10 of the first 11 shots of the period.

Chiero's goal less than seven and a half minutes into the second half came on the first assist of the season by Leland Keller.

Patil Tcholakian made six of her eight saves in the first half, and made another save one minute after Chiero's goal to preserve the narrow lead.

Abby King led the Big Red with four shot attempts while Ellie Reiser and Chiero both had three, but Chiero was the only one with two shots on goal.

With the win, Denison improved to 10-2 overall and 6-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference with five shutouts so far in conference play, each by Tcholakian. The Big Red are also now two games ahead in the win column over the second-place team in the conference standings, Kenyon College, with only two matches remaining.

The Big Red will play twice on the road to close out their regular season, beginning with a 7:30 p.m. match under the lights at Hiram College on Tuesday, October 26, before traveling to the College of Wooster for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, October 30, in its regular-season finale.
