GRANVILLE, Ohio. (October 23, 2021) – Only two days after suffering its first conference loss of the season, the Denison University field hockey team bounced back with a 3-0 win over DePauw University on Saturday inside Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.
Each of Denison's first two shots of the game found the back of the net as less than two minutes in,
Hannah Lester delivered a hard pass into the box and right to
Ana Ortiz-DeRosa, who had no problem taking the pass in stride and putting it right past the keeper.
Then in the 13th minute, a couple of passes off a penalty corner for Denison led to an off-handed shot by
Sarah Stratenus around her defender from the left side and into the right side of the goal.
In the 55th minute, another penalty corner for the Big Red led to a shot by
Cary Mauck, who got her own rebound after the initial block and then took it around her defender for the finish.
With the win, Denison improved to 8-6 overall and 5-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference while DePauw fell to 5-10 and 3-4.
The Big Red will now head to the road for their final road game of the regular season at Wittenberg University at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 27; and then Denison's Senior Day and regular-season finale will be against Oberlin College at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 30, from Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.
