GRANVILLE, Ohio. (October 21, 2021) – The Denison University field hockey team lost for the first time in North Coast Athletic Conference action during the 2021 season as the Big Red came up short 3-2 in a shootout against Earlham College on Thursday night inside Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.
After only three shots by Denison (7-6 overall, 4-1 NCAC) during regulation and none from Earlham (13-2, 4-1), the Big Red exploded for six shots in the first overtime period, two each by
Kristin Kelley,
AC Veith and

Then in the second overtime, it was Earlham who fired six shots, forcing

In the shootout, Earlham stared out with a miss and Veith followed with a goal to put Denison up 1-0. Then a make by Earlham followed by a goal by
Madeleine Hunt made it 2-1 Big Red two rounds in.
The two teams then traded two rounds of misses as the Big Red missed a chance to put it away in round four, and then in round five a make for Earlham was followed by a miss by Denison to keep it going.
One more miss by each team brought it to round seven, where a fifth straight miss by Denison left the door open for the game winner from Earlham's Denise Bergdolt.
