GRANVILLE, Ohio. (October 20, 2021) – In what began as a matchup between the top two teams in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings, the Denison University women' soccer team needed overtime to come out on top with a 1-0 win at home over Oberlin College on Wednesday night.
With the win, Denison improved to 9-3 overall and remained undefeated in the NCAC at 5-0 while Oberlin fell to 7-6-1 and 3-2-1.
The game-winning goal just under three minutes into overtime came from
Dulcie Heyes on the assist by
Amy Chiero. It was the third goal of the season for Heyes and was the third assist for Chiero.
Before that, however, the story of the match was missed opportunities by the Big Red, who fired 29 shots in total for the night but had only seven shots on goal.
Ellie Reiser led Denison with five shots while
Callie Davis and
Leland Keller both had four and
Abby King and Heyes both had three.
The Big Red defense, meanwhile, limited the Yeowoman to only one shot in each half and zero shots on goal.
Denison's final home match of the regular season will come in three days as the Big Red host Wittenberg University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 23, on Barclay-Thomsen Field.
