GRANVILLE, Ohio (October 2, 2021) – Playing for the first time in 10 days and in what turned out to be its first North Coast Athletic Conference match of the 2021 season, the Denison University women's soccer team was victorious by a score of 2-0 over Allegheny College on Saturday during Big Red Weekend.
After a scoreless first half in which Denison outshot Allegheny 10-3, the Big Red really upped the pressure both offensively and defensively in the second half.
Denison outshot Allegheny 21-1 in the second half and got two goals assisted by
Dulcie Heyes.
After the first shot of the second half for either team resulted in a save by Denison goalkeeper
Patil Tcholakian in the 51st minute, the first goal of the match came in the 53rd minute off a high-flying header by
Katie Livingston, and then
Amy Chiero doubled the Big Red's lead in the 62nd minute.
In all, Denison had 10 players with at least one shot attempt, seven with two or more attempts, and nine with at least one shot on goal.
Sophia Connell led the Big Red with eight shot attempts while
Ellie Reiser had six and Chiero and
Abby King both had four. Additionally, all four of Chiero's shots on the day where on target.
Tcholakian, meanwhile, earned the second shutout of her senior season in goal.
With the win, Denison improved to 5-3 overall on the season and 1-0 in the NCAC while Allegheny fell to 3-7 and 0-2.
Next up will be a makeup match against the team Denison was supposed to open up NCAC play with back on September 25, Ohio Wesleyan University. Now, the Big Red and the Battling Bishops will play at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 5, in Delaware, Ohio.
