GRANVILLE, Ohio-- Denison's four competitors in the 2020 NCAA Division III Diving Regional hosted by the college at the Trumbull Aquatics Center closed out the weekend with strong showings.
Sophomore Liam Simmons finished third on the men's 1-meter board with an 11-dive score of 439.15. First-place went to Dylan Glumac-Berberich of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 504.45. Andrew Chen of Chicago placed second with 471.50.
Simmons finished strong logging scores of 40 or more on four of his final five attempts. His 10th dive was an inward 2 somersault tuck (404C) with a 2.8 degree of difficulty that was scored at 49.00. He nailed his final dive which was a forward 1 ½ somersault 1 twist free (5132D) with a 2.2 degree of difficulty for a 46.20.
On the women's 3-meter board the Big Red trio finished in fifth, sixth and eighth out of 20 divers. Senior Naomi Clayton led DU with a fifth-place finish with an 11-dive score of 398.25. Mattie Stauss followed in sixth at 392.90 while first-year Ally Peterson finished eighth at 374.10.
Qualifiers for the 2020 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina will be announced by the NCAA next week.
