GRANVILLE, Ohio-- Four Denison divers competed at the 2020 NCAA Diving Regional hosted by Denison University at the Trumbull Aquatics Center on Friday. Naomi Clayton, Mattie Stauss, and Ally Peterson were entered in the women's 1-meter dive and Liam Simmons dove in the men's 3-meter competition.
On the women's 1-meter board, Denison was led by Stauss' fifth-place finish after totaling a score of 408.35. On Stauss' ninth dive she was awarded a score of 45.60 on her inward 1 1/2 somersault pike (403B) with a 2.4 degree of difficulty. The top-four in the standings were occupied by divers from the University of Chicago. Following in seventh place was Clayton at 386.30. Peterson checked in 11th out of 22 entries after a score of 369.20.
Denison's Liam Simmons competed on the men's 3-meter board and finished in fifth place with an 11 dive score of 422.10. Simmons' best dive came on his sixth attempt, forward 2 ½ somersault pike (105B) where he was awarded a score of 50.40. His final dive was a forward 1 ½ somersault 2 twist free (5134D) that earned him a score of 48.75.
Simmons will compete on the men's 1-meter board on Saturday at 12 p.m. Stauss, Peterson and Clayton will take part in the women's 3-meter at 3:15 p.m.
