Trio leads Denison men at All-Ohio

The Denison men's track and field team finished scored 18 points en route to a 12th-place finish at the 2015 All-Ohio Championship held at Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday in Delaware, Ohio.

Juniors Wallace Branche and Sam Beech led DU with a pair of runner-up finishes, while classmate Bryan Fowler logged a seventh-place performance. After winning back-to-back All-Ohio outdoor triple jump titles, Branche took second in the event with a mark of 46'2.50" That performance gave Denison its first points of the day.

Beech provided another eight points wish his personal-record performance in the 10,000-meter run. The junior distance runner posted his first top-3 showing at the meet after finishing the race in 32:19.45. Beech shaved over 29 seconds off his previous PR and jumped to fifth on the school's outdoor performer's list. Fowler rounded out the scoring with two points in the javelin (157'8").

The Big Red also had four top-12 performances. Junior Quenton Richards just missed making the finals of the 100-meter dash after placing ninth in the prelims with a time of 11.10. Sophomore Drake Lohnes and freshman Chris Todd were 12th in the 3000 steeplechase and 800 run, respectively. Lohnes clocked in at 9:58.58, while Todd crossed the line in 1:59.12. In the 4x400 relay, Mitch Keller, Todd, Ryan Keller and Zach Munn combined for a 12th-place showing with a time of 3:29.56.

The host Battling Bishops won the team title with 158 points, while Mount Union was second with 129 points. Ohio Northern (101.50), Otterbein (71) and John Carroll (66) rounded out the top five.

The Big Red returns to action next Saturday at the Kenyon Spring Invitational. Events are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
