Denison hosted the annual Big Red Invitational under the lights at Piper Stadium on Friday night and sophomore Quenton Richards paced DU with a victory in the 200 meter dash and a second place finish in the 100 meters. Richards also ran the anchor leg of the 4x100 relay that finished second by just .04 seconds.
To win the 200 dash, Richards posted a time of 22.95 seconds. His classmate, Lucas Romick, placed sixth in 23.83. In the 100 dash, Richards crossed the finish line in 11.16 seconds.
In the 3000 meter run, Jacob Dennie was victorious in 9:11.73. Andrew Groff placed third in 9:13.26, and Stephen Stitcher finished seventh in 9:24.41. In the other distance race, Mitch Keller won the 1,500 meters in 4:05.77. Ryan Keller followed in third place in 4:10.20.
DU's top finishers in the running events was rounded out by Zac Cove who finished second in the 800 meters (1:59.52), and Wallace Branche who placed fourth in the 110 meter hurdles in 16.65 seconds.
In field events, Trent Babb finished third in the high jump, clearing 6'0. Mark Stair of Wooster won the event by clearing 6'9". In the pole vault, Riley Roselius also took home third place by clearing 10'6". Wittenberg's Alex Owens was the event winner with a height of 12'11.75".
Branche was the event champion in the triple jump after leaping 46'6.75" which edged his teammate and second place finisher, Lester Harris. Harris posted a distance of 42'8.25".
The throws saw John Bute finish second in the shot put, fifth in the discus, and seventh in the hammer. In the shot put, Bute finished five feet out of first place after a throw of 42'11.75". He threw the discus 120'7" and uncorked a distance of 101'8" in the hammer throw.
The final field event competitor for DU was Bryan Fowler who locked up a third place finish in the javelin with a throw of 138'10"
Denison will return to competition on May 2-3 at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship, hosted by Oberlin College.
