The Denison men's track and field team placed 13th out of 19 teams at the annual All-Ohio Division III Championship hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday.
The Big Red recorded 19 points after scoring in two events on Saturday in Delaware. DU scored the majority of its points in the triple jump where sophomore Wallace Branche and freshman Lester Harris occupied two of the top three spots in the event. For the second-consecutive year, Branche took home the All-Ohio title after recording a personal-best performance in the event. The sophomore won the event with a combined leap of 46'10.75", a 2.5" improvement from his previous outdoor PR.
Harris also improved on his previous personal best en route to finishing third in the event. The freshman jumper logged a distance of 44'3.50", which surpassed his previous PR set at last week's Marv Frye Invitational by 0.75". In total, the duo of Branche and Lester scored 16 points in the triple jump.
Also earning points for DU was sophomore sprinter Quenton Richards. Richards entered this weekend's event ranked seventh on the school's top performers list with a personal-best time of 11.02 in the 100-meter dash. On Saturday, the sophomore bested his previous PR twice to move into third on the Denison's list. In the prelims, Richards narrowly qualified for the finals after finishing eighth with a time of 10.94. Later in the day, he took sixth in the finals after crossing the finish line in 10.77. In addition to setting a new personal record, Richards also moved past Ed Stone, who ran a 10.84 (converted from a 10.6 hand time) in 1973.
Sophomore Bryan Fowler also set a personal record in the javelin. Last weekend, Fowler had a PR performance in the event with a mark of 148'10". Exactly one week later, the sophomore transfer recorded a mark of 153'8" en route to an 11-place finish. Fowler's performance moved him into fifth place on DU's top performers list.
Mount Union won the team title with 189.50 points, while the host Battling Bishops took second with 127 tallies. Baldwin Wallace was third with 82 points, while John Carroll (67) and Ohio Northern (51.50) rounded out the top five spots. The Big Red finished the event with 19 points.
Denison returns to action next weekend when they compete at both the Jesse Owens Classic hosted by The Ohio State University and at the Kenyon College Invitational.
