The Denison track and field team hosted its annual Last Chance Meet on Friday as a final tune-up for next weekend's North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship.
As a team, the Big Red posted three top-3 finishes, two of which were achieved by freshman Anne Lee. Lee won the triple jump with a personal-best performance of 35'11.25". She also took second in the long jump with a leap of 15'10.50". The other top-3 performance came at the end of the meet when the 4x400 relay team of Kate Benson, Haley Dowdie, Claire Barcelo and Jillian Reagan took third with a time of 4:45.67.
Sophomore sprinter Kiki Yewer logged two top-6 performances. Yewer finished with the fifth-best time in the 60-meter dash after crossing the line in 8.33. She returned to the track to pick up a sixth-place finish in the 200 dash (27.34). Junior Kristen Geary finished in a tie for fifth in the pole vault after clearing 9'7". Olivia Ireland finished seventh and 10th in the 400 and 200-meter events, respectively. Ireland clocked in at 1:04.83 in the 400 and completed the 200 in 28.76.
Sophomores Macey Thornburg and Sarah McKendry paced a large group of Denison in the 3,000-meter run. Thornburg led the charge with an eighth-place performance after completing the race in 11:52.26. McKendry finished second for DU and 10th overall with a time of 12:09.39. Benson rounded out the list of top-10 performers with a 10th-place finish in the mile. The sophomore middle distance runner finished the race in 5:45.86.
Denison returns to action next weekend when they host the 2014 NCAC Indoor Track & Field Championship at the Mitchell Fieldhouse in Granville. The two-day event will begin Friday at 12 p.m.
