The Big Red took second at the Carnegie Mellon University Mini Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Pittsburgh, Pa.  DU totaled 129 points behind five victories and 14 top-3 finishes.

Denison freshman Jordan Patterson logged three wins at CMU on Saturday.  Patterson won both the 100 and 200-meter events, and was part of the victorious 4x100 relay team.  The rookie completed the 100 in 11.16, and posted a time of 22.68 in the 200 dash.  In the 4x100, Patterson, Joe Nichols, Ian Mulmat and Quenton Richards combined for a time of 43.67.

Also posting wins were seniors Dimonde Hale and Chad Kosanovich.  Hale, competing in his first outdoor event, won the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.82.  Kosanvich took first in the 1500 after crossing the line in 4:01.50.  The senior distance runner also picked up a fourth-place finish in the 800 with a time of 1:59.24.

Richards logged three top-3 performances on the day.  The freshman sprinter finished runner-up in the 100 dash (11.26) and high jump (5-08.50), and was third in the 200-meter event (23.40).  Mulmat took sixth in the 200 with a time of 23.53.

Nichols and Sam Posniewski also placed second in the long jump and 400 hurdles, respectively.  Nichols recorded a jump of 19-05.25, while Posniewski clocked in at 57.13.  Mitch and Ryan Keller finished two-three in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with times of 9:55.49 and 10:08.06.  Jon Brachna took third in the 400 (51.82), while Jacob Ott placed sixth in the 1500 (4:11.38).

Andy Shaw was fourth in the discus with a toss of 134-00, while Ian Weijer threw the javelin 133-10, which landed him in sixth place.  The 4x400 relay team of Posniewski, Patterson, Brachna and Hale finished runner up with a time of 3:23.17. The foursome's time ranks eighth in school history and is the second-best time in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

Denison returns to action next Saturday at the Marv Frye Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.
