DU performs well at home

The Big Red won four events on Friday night at the unscored Big Red Invitational from Piper Stadium.  Senior Chris Roth posted a time of 21.88 to win the 200 meter dash.  He bested second-place Ethan Deselem of Wooster by more than a second.  Roth was also the runner-up in the 100 meter dash to Wittenberg freshman Victor Banjo.  Roth crossed the finish line in 11.13.

In the 400 meter dash it was junior Dimonde Hale who ran away with a victory and a time of 49.66.  Senior Win Fox was fourth in 53.06 while Ivanhoe Hall ended up eighth in 55.62.

In the 800 meters, junior Chad Kosanovich was the winner in 1:57.27 while Jon Brachna placed third in 1:59.22.  Junior Stephen Czujko placed sixth in the event with a time of 2:03.36.

Denison's final victory came from Wendell Taylor in the shot put with a distance of 42'8".  In other field event action, John Bute placed second in the discus with a throw of 114'8" while Taylor followed in third place with a distance of 113'5".  Taylor would also place third in the hammer throw.

Senior Joe Nichols finished fourth in the triple jump (39'3") and second in the high jump (5'7.75")

The 1500 meter run was led by Jacob Ott and Joe Thackery who placed third and sixth, respectively.  Ott's time of 4:16.47 was a season-best.  In the men's 3,000 meters, Alexander Chappars finished fourth in 9:16.67 and Chris Dunn placed sixth in 9:24.08.

In the relays, DU placed third in the 4x100 in 43.64 and second in the 4x400 in 3:41.24.

This was the final tune-up before next weekend's North Coast Athletic Conference Championship.  Prior to the end of the meet Denison bid farewell to its seven-member senior class; Chappars, Dunn, Fox, Roth, Dee Salukombo, Taylor and Thackery.
