On the final weekend before the 2011 North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship, the Denison women's track and field team competed at the Denison Last Chance Meet on Friday evening.
Senior Julie Rotramel (Lexington, Ky./Lafayette) logged the only victory of the night for the Big Red. The senior took first in the mile with a time of 5:28.87. Trailing behind her in third place was classmate Kirby Mosenthal (Briarcliff, N.Y./Irvington), who crossed the line at 5:42.11. In the 55-meter dash, the duo of first-year Dareon Stacker (New Orleans, La./New Orleans Charter Science & Math) and junior Alesha Stewart (Houma, La./La. School for Math, Science & Art) finished in second and third, respectively. Stacker clocked in at 7.82, while Stewart posted a time of 7.85, while senior Ashley Putnam (North East, Pa./North East) took second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.71. DU topped Wooster in the 4x200 relay, crossing the finish line in 1:55.27.
Junior Georgie Strohmenger (Canton, Ohio/Hoover) and senior Claire Navarro (Seal Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos) finished second and third in the long jump. Strohmenger logged a distance of 15-00.50, while Navarro had a leap of 14-11.25. In the triple jump, junior Andrea Pion (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) was runner up with a jump of 31-11.25.
The Big Red return to action next weekend when they travel to Oberlin, Ohio for the 2011 North Coast Athletic Conference Championship. The two-day event begins on Friday.
