Results from Big Red Invitational

Denison freshman Dimonde Hale (Columbus, Ohio/Northland) logged his first collegiate victory in the 400 meters and first-year Cal Keating (Encino, Calif./Notre Dame) posted three, top-three finishes in the jump events to lead the DU men at the third annual Big Red Invitational from Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.

Keating won the long jump with a distance of 21'6" and placed second in the high jump, clearing 5'10.75".  Keating closed out his night with a third-place finish in the triple jump.

Hale, the 2010 NCAC Men's Basketball Newcomer of the Year, has transitioned easily to the track.  He posted a time of 50.57 to win the 400 meters by almost two seconds.  Also landing in the winners column for Denison was junior Steve Gallego (Lyndhurst, N.J./New Canaan) who threw a distance of 181'11" to win the javelin.  The throw was just eight feet shy of his school record set last season.

Other top finishers for Denison on Friday night were Joe Thackery (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) and Eric Shrum (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) who placed fourth and fifth, respectively in the 1,500 meters.  In the 100 meter dash Chris Roth (Milwaukee, Wis./University School) placed fourth with a time of 11.56 and Chris Black (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) checked in fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:58.34.

The Big Red will return to action next weekend at the 2010 North Coast Athletic Conference Championships from Ohio Wesleyan University.
