Sophomore Dee Salukombo (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) led the Denison men's outdoor track and field team with an NCAA provisional performance at Saturday's Division III All-Ohio Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.
Salukombo won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 9:22.21. The sophomore finished the race over three seconds faster than runner up Jordan Karnes of Heidelberg. Sophomore Alex Chappars (Xenia, Ohio/Bellbrook) finished fifth in the 10,000-meter run after logging a time of 32:23.59. Also having success in the distance events were junior Russell Holden (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) and rookie Chad Kosanovich (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley). Holden took seventh in the 5,000 meter with a time of 15:33.47, while Kosanovich was eighth in the 1,500-meter run after crossing the line in 4:02.96.
In the field events, junior Steven Gallego (Lyndhurst, N.J./New Canaan) finished third in the javelin with a distance of 170-07, while freshman Cal Keating (Encino, Calif./Notre Dame) was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 21-04.75.
Denison returns to the track on April 23 when they host the Big Red Invitational in Granville.
