Seniors Emily Hammeren (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted Falls) and Emily Taylor (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) each recorded a victory for Denison women's indoor track & field team at the unscored Denison Lid-Lifter.
Hammeren took first in the pole vault after clearing 9-06.25. Taylor won the shot put with a mark of 35-01.75, while classmate Emily Handelman (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield) finished runner-up in the event with a toss of 30-03.50.
Sophomore Alesha Stewart (Houma, La./La. School for Math, Science & Art) was second in the 55-meter dash with a time of 8.01, just one second behind race winner Ivana Moses of Carnegie Mellon University. Ani Mutafova (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) finished the 800-meter run in 2:28.04 which landed her a second-place finish. First-years Julie Cantelon (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) and Lauren Reilly (Washington Crossing, Pa./Council Rock) took third in their respective events. Cantelon logged a time of 545.91 in the one mile run, while Reilly cleared 4-06.00 in the high jump.
The Big Red returns to competition on Saturday (Jan. 30) when they host the North Coast Athletic Conference Relays in Granville.
