Nick Eberle begins his second season with the Denison University football team coaching linebackers in 2023.
In 2023, the Big Red won their final four games to finish the season 7-3 overall and tie for second place in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings (6-2) for the second year in a row. Jeff Moore (senior linebacker) was named First-Team All-NCAC and was also named Second-Team All-Region 4 by D3football.com after leading the Big Red with 82 tackles and tying for the team lead with 10 quarterback hurries, finishing third with 8.5 tackles for loss and adding one interception and one forced fumble. In all of the NCAC, Moore was tied for third in total tackles and was seventh in tackles for loss. On the defensive side of the ball, Denison had the No. 2-rated overall defense in the NCAC (44th nationally), the top passing defense in the NCAC (181.8 yards per game), the second-best rushing defense in the NCAC, and the No. 2-ranked third-down conversion percentage defense in the NCAC (20th nationally).
Denison finished its 2022 season 8-2 overall and 6-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, which was good for a tie for second place. Under Coach Eberle's watch during his first season, junior linebacker Jeff Moore and sophomore Nathan Hallenbeck were both named Second-Team All-NCACÂ while senior Jonathan Bearden was named to the third-team.
Eberle previously worked at NCAA Division II Ohio Dominican University where he coached the linebackers in 2015 and 2016, followed by coaching tight ends and becoming the special teams coordinator for the 2017 season when ODU won the 2017 G-MAC Championship.
In his first season at ODU, Eberle helped mentor Austin Osborne (first team) and Cameron Kohl (honorable mention) to All-GLIAC recognition. In 2016, Ross Thompson also picked up All-GLIAC honors. In 2017, punter Logen Neidhardt was named the G-MAC Special Teams Player of the Year. In 2018, Coach Eberle's special teams unit ranked in the top-25 of every special teams statistic in NCAA Division II. In all, Eberle spent five seasons coaching at ODU (2015-2019) before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prior to ODU, Eberle spent three seasons as the linebackers coach at Lindsey Wilson College, where he helped the Blue Raiders to a top-10 ranking and Mid-South Conference title in 2014. He also served as the special teams coordinator and academic coordinator.
Eberle also spent two seasons as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Robert Morris University and was a graduate assistant coach for two years at the University of Toledo. He helped mentor two Toledo football players to the NFL – Barry Church (Dallas Cowboys) and T.J. Fatinikun (Tampa Bay Buccaneers.).
Eberle started coaching at the collegiate level in 2006 with Illinois Wesleyan, coaching the defensive line and working with the strength and conditioning.
Eberle graduated from the Defiance College in 2001 and later earned master's degrees from Illinois State University and Toledo.
