Ian Formaz begins his third season with the Denison University football team in 2023. He coached running backs and tight ends in 2022 after coaching the linebackers during his first season in 2021.

Denison finished its 2022 season 8-2 overall and 6-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, which was good for a tie for second place, while junior running back Trey Fabrocini was named first-team all-conference and second-team all-region and senior tight end Mack Marston was named second-team all-conference. In addition, Fabrocini set a new Denison single-season record with 20 rushing touchdowns and finished with the fifth most rushing yards in a season in program history with 1,303 yards. Fabrocini finished the year ranked second in all of NCAA Division III in rushing touchdowns and total touchdowns (22), and was sixth in total rushing yards.

In Coach Formaz's first season at Denison in 2021, the Big Red finished 6-4 overall and 6-3 in the NCAC, which was tied for fourth place, while he coached sophomore linebacker Jeff Moore to First-Team All-NCAC and D3football.com Second-Team All-Region honors.

Formaz spent the last Spring season at Ohio Dominican and the 2019 season at Capital University where he was coaching the offensive line. He is no stranger to the NCAC as he spent seven seasons as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Ohio Wesleyan.

A 2003 graduate of Baldwin-Wallace University, Formaz was a two-year starter on the offensive line and was named First-Team OAC in 2003. He was also named Second-Team All-North Region and earned All-American honors in 2003. Formaz was also a four-year letter winner in track and field.
