Beau Scott enters his 11 th year overall at Denison where he serves as the Director of Sports
Performance and Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. Scott currently is directly responsible
for the training of the football, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, and softball teams. In
addition, over his time at Denison, he has served as the head strength and conditioning coach
for the men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s golf,
women’s soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, and women’s fencing teams. He has also
served as an adjunct professor in the Health, Exercise, and Sport Studies (HESS) department
teaching multiple directed and independent studies, as well as developing and
teaching Essentials of Performance and Exercise in the spring of 2020.
Scott currently oversees the implementation and integration of various forms of technology
within the sports performance space. Denison’s athletic teams utilize Velocity Based Training
(VBT) and force plate technology. In conjunction with the Data Analytics Department, Scott has
been able to implement this technology to monitor neuromuscular fatigue and performance
metrics. In 2019, Scott was 1 of 100 strength coaches (1 of 3 from NCAA Division III) chosen
from around the world to participate in the biannual High-Performance Strength and
Conditioning Symposium at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs,
Colorado.
He has worked in the sport performance field since 2004 serving as a high school teacher,
coach, and administrator, in addition to completing a one-year strength and conditioning
internship at Miami University. He received his bachelor’s degree from Hanover College and his
master’s degree from Ohio Dominican University in Exercise Physiology. He holds certifications
from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a certified strength and
conditioning specialist (CSCS) and certified personal trainer (NSCA-CPT), as well as from the
National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) as a corrective exercise specialist (CES). Scott
has research experience in the areas of force development, biomechanics, muscle recovery,
and blood flow restriction (BFR) training.
During his time at Denison, the Denison Strength Internship program has been an integral part
of the student experience for those students entering the sports performance field. Denison
Strength interns have gone on to secure internships, graduate assistant positions, and full time positions at Clemson University, Auburn University, Indiana University, The University of Iowa, The University of Minnesota, Boston College, UC Davis, Georgetown University, Coastal Carolina University, George Washington University, The University of Maryland, North Dakota State University, Rutgers University, The University of Central Florida, Duke University, and
Miami University.
Over the course of his career at Denison, the teams that he has trained have won 37 NCAC
Conference Championships (16 NCAC Regular Season Championships, 21 NCAC Tournament
Championships). In addition, teams that he has worked with have won 4 NCAA National
Championships and have finished in the top four in the country 12 different times. During his
time at Denison, 10 different Denison athletes have been awarded as National Strength and
Conditioning Association (NSCA) All-American Athletes.
