Hector Florencia

Hector Florencia joined the Denison University women's fencing team as an assistant coach in the summer of 2024.

Coach Florencia brings with him an impressive twenty years of fencing experience, including nine years of successful competition on the world stage. He represented the Mexican National Team in sabre, earning a reputation as one of the sport's elite athletes, from 2012 to 2018.

As a competitor, Coach Florencia participated in numerous world cups and world championships. Notably, he ranked among the top junior fencers globally for four consecutive years (2012-2016), achieving a peak world ranking of seventh. His career highlights include multiple world cup medals and an outstanding eighth-place finish at the 2014 Junior World Championships in Bulgaria.

Coach Florencia holds a Bachelor of Science in Sports Industry from The Ohio State University, where he also fenced on an athletic scholarship. During his time at Ohio State, he represented the Buckeyes in the NCAA national championships, further solidifying his expertise and passion for the sport.

For the past five years, Coach Florencia has been the driving force behind the Frisco Fencing Academy in Texas. As the owner and head coach, he has guided numerous students to national-level success. His holistic coaching philosophy focuses on the development of the whole student-athlete, fostering both competitive excellence and personal growth.
