Matthew Terrell enters his second season as an assistant coach with the Denison University men’s and women’s track & field programs in 2022-23.
In his first season in Granville in 2022, Terrell helped coach the Big Red men's track & field team to a fourth-place finish at the NCAC Indoor Track & Field Championship, followed by a second-place finish at the NCAC Outdoor Championship, the best finish at the outdoor championship for Denison since winning its sixth conference title in seven years in 1991. The 10 All-NCAC performances Denison collected between both days of the outdoor championship and the decathlon were the most by the Big Red in a single outdoor championship since also earning 10 all-conference honors in 1998. Additionally, the Big Red men also won the 2022 All-Ohio Outdoor Track & Field Championship meet for the first time in program history. On the women's side, Denison finished fifth at the NCAC Indoor Championship and was fourth in the outdoor championship. Freshman sprinter Anaya Jolivette was named the indoor NCAC Newcomer of the Year after winning the conference championship in both the 60 and 200 meter dashes, and then she capped off her rookie campaign with a pair of outdoor conference titles in the 100 and 200 meter dashes while earning both the NCAC Newcomer and Sprints/Hurdles Athlete of the Year awards.
Coach Terrell was the Co-Head Track & Field Coach at Pickerington High School Central from 2019-2021, and before that he was the Sprints Coach at Centennial High School in Columbus, Ohio, from 2013 to 2019.
As a prep athlete, Terrell was a nine-time state champion in the state of Indiana in events that include the 200m, 100m and 4x100m. He then competed on the collegiate level with The Ohio State University placing in the BIG10 as a freshman. Just recently, Terrell was inducted in the 2020 state of Indiana High School Track & Field Hall of Fame.

Terrell earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from The Ohio State University in 2021.
