Denison senior Peter Shorten (Hudson, Ohio/Western
Reserve Academy) was named to the ESPN The Magazine
Academic All-America first-team as selected by the College Sports
Information Directors of America. Shorten is the 57th
Academic All-America recipient from Denison and the first men's
soccer player in the history of the program to earn the prestigious
honor.
Shorten is a four-year starter in the midfield who led DU to the
2009 North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament championship
following a 2-1, overtime upset of No. 1 ranked, Ohio
Wesleyan. Shorten was a part of two NCAC Tournament
Championship teams during his tenure in Granville, and helped the
team to a pair of NCAA Division III Tournament appearances (2006
and 2009).
In 73 career matches Shorten scored 18 goals and added 10
assists. He was a three-time All-NCAC honoree and a
first-team all-conference selection this season. Shorten is
majoring in history and boasts a 3.83 grade point average.

Teams Program is a premier, nationwide college scholar-athlete
awards program. It recognizes 816 outstanding
student-athletes annually in Division I, II, III and NAIA covering
