Shorten named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America squad

Denison senior Peter Shorten (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America first-team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.  Shorten is the 57th Academic All-America recipient from Denison and the first men's soccer player in the history of the program to earn the prestigious honor.

Shorten is a four-year starter in the midfield who led DU to the 2009 North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament championship following a 2-1, overtime upset of No. 1 ranked, Ohio Wesleyan.  Shorten was a part of two NCAC Tournament Championship teams during his tenure in Granville, and helped the team to a pair of NCAA Division III Tournament appearances (2006 and 2009).

In 73 career matches Shorten scored 18 goals and added 10 assists.  He was a three-time All-NCAC honoree and a first-team all-conference selection this season.  Shorten is majoring in history and boasts a 3.83 grade point average.

Created in 1952 by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Teams Program is a premier, nationwide college scholar-athlete awards program.  It recognizes 816 outstanding student-athletes annually in Division I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
