Denison junior Katie Navarre (Upper Arlington,
Ohio/Upper Arlington) was named to the ESPN The Magazine
Academic All-America squad for women's track & field/cross
country, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of
America (CoSIDA). A second-team selection, Navarre becomes
the 58th student-athlete from Denison University to earn Academic
All-America honors. She is also the 11th athlete from the
track & field/cross country program to earn this
distinction.
A two-time All-American in cross country and a two-time
All-American in track and field, Navarre is coming off a season
which saw her receive awards as the NCAA Great Lakes Regional
Runner of the Year and the North Coast Athletic Conference Runner
of the Year. At the 2009 NCAA Division III Cross
Country Championship she logged a program-best, sixth-place finish
with a time of 21.57.1. At the NCAA Great Lakes Regional,
Navarre became the first female in Denison history to win the event
with her time of 21:23.09. At the conference championship in
October, Navarre became the third runner from Denison to take home
the individual championship. At the 2009 All-Ohio
Championship, in a field of nearly 300 runners from 42 Ohio
colleges and universities, Navarre placed fifth overall.
In track and field, Navarre posted All-American performances in
both the 5,000 and the 10,000 in the 2009 NCAA Outdoor
Championships. This year, at the NCAC Indoor Track &
Field Championships, she placed second in the 3,000 meters and the
5,000 meters. Navarre boasts a 3.94 grade point average and
is majoring in English. She is also a volunteer with Amnesty
International.

America (CoSIDA), the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Teams
Program is premier, nationwide college scholar-athlete awards
program. It recognizes over 800 outstanding student-athletes
annually in Division I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA
championship sports.
