Denison University senior Erin Coughlin (Battle Creek,
Mich./Lakeview) was named to the third team of the 2006
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America At-Large squad after capping
off a stellar four-year playing career for the Big Red women's
tennis team.
The women's At-Large program for Academic All-America includes
the sports of tennis, bowling, crew, fencing, golf, gymnastics,
field hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing and water polo. Coughlin, a
senior communication/German major, helped her Denison women's
tennis squad to four consecutive North Coast Athletic Conference
Championships and a appearance in the NCAA national quarterfinals
(Elite 8) in 2005. She posted a career singles and doubles record
of 106-36 (.746) and finished the year ranked 24th nationally with
doubles partner Kendra Murray this season.
Coughlin was awarded the 2006 Denison Student Athlete Advisory
Council Standout Award for exemplary leadership, sportsmanship and
community service. She is an eight-time All-NCAC honoree (all four
years in both singles and doubles) and was a three time All-NCAC
pick in doubles. In 2004 she earned All-American status from the
Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
During her four years at Denison the women's tennis team has
gone 69-17 (.802). Coughlin is the third Denison student athlete to
be named to the Academic All-America squad in the 2005-06 academic
year. She follows women's soccer standout Colleen Wirtz and AJ
Jezierski, the starting catcher from the Big Red baseball team.
Created in 1952 by the College Sports Information Directors

Teams Program is the premier, nationwide college scholar-athlete
