Binkley repeats as First-Team Academic All-America

Denison University junior cross country and track and field standout Elaine Binkley (Columbus, Ohio/Watterson) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America first team for the second consecutive season as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

This year, Binkley helped the Denison cross country team to their second consecutive Great Lakes Regional championship and a 24th place finish at the Division III championships. She has a 4.0 grade point average and was named to Denison's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa in 2006. She won the 3,000 meters at the North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship and was a provisional qualifier in the 10,000 meters in outdoor competition this year. Binkley is the 44th Academic All-American from Denison University and the fourth DU student athlete in the 2005-06 academic year to achieve this honor. She follows Colleen Wirtz (Women's Soccer), AJ Jezierski (Baseball) and Erin Coughlin (Women's Tennis).

Created in 1952 by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Teams Program is the premier, nationwide college scholar-athlete awards program. It recognizes 816 outstanding student-athletes annually in Division I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
