Sophomore Elaine Binkley was named to the ESPN
The Magazine Academic All-America® Women's Track &
Field/Cross Country first team as selected by the College Sports
Information Directors of America.
Binkley, a two-time All-American in cross country, placed 28th
at the Division III national championship, leading Denison to an
eighth place finish as a team. The finish was the best in school
history for the Big Red. In her first year at Denison, Binkley
placed 22nd as an individual at the NCAA Championships. She also
competes in Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field and in 2004 she
qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field
Championships in the 10,000 meters. She holds a 4.0 grade point
average and is majoring in biology. Binkley is also enrolled in
Denison's honor's program.
She was the only sophomore among the 15 first-team honorees.
Binkley is the 40th Academic All-America selection from Denison
since the program's inception in 1952 and the fourth of the 2004-05
athletic season.
To be eligible for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America
team the student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve,
maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of
4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at
his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports
