HEAD COACHES:

GAME SUMMARY:

RAIN, BISHOPS PUT DAMPER ON DENISON NIGHTTIME DEBUT

Denison hosted its first-ever night game on Saturday, losing a tight
contest to the rival Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan University, 10-9.
Under the lights of Barclay-Thomsen Field, and under a persistent bone-
chilling rainfall, the Big Red of Denison built a four-goal lead early in
the second half, but couldn't hold on fo the victory. It took Ohio
Wesleyan all of 59 minutes and 58 seconds to secure the win as Evan Dunne
scored the winning goal for the Bishops with only two seconds remaining in
regulation.

Denison (7-2) entered the game ranked seventh in Division III, while
OWU (7-3) was rated 10th. Two weeks ago, the Big Red defeated Ohio
Wesleyan by a 14-9 score in Delaware in a North Coast Athletic Conference
contest. This game does not count in the league standings, but it could
well have some impact on next week's national rankings. Denison's only
losses this spring have come at the hands of Ohio Wesleyan and sixth-
ranked Middlebury. OWU's only defeats have come against Denison, fifth-
ranked Salisbury State and 13th-ranked Lynchburg.

In a game of scoring streaks, Denison led 5-2 after the first half on
goals from Ryan Berger (2), Mike Tessier, Drew Jones and Sean O'Brien.
After O'Brien opened the scoring in the second half, OWU countered with
three scores to bring the Bishops to within one at 6-5. Denison's T.J.
Minogue and Berger closed out the scoring in the third quarter to give the
Big Red an 8-5 advantage.

The final period saw Ohio Wesleyan come back to tie the game at 8-8
with 3:11 left, and Scott Jackson put the Bishops on top for the first
time in the contest, 9-8, on goal with only 1:46 remaining. OWU was
penalized following its go-ahead goal, giving Denison a man advantage, and
Minogue responded with the Big Red's tying goal with just 53 ticks left on
the game clock. Dunne, however, provided his heroics 51 seconds later,
finding the upper right-hand corner of the Denison net to earn both
victory and revenge for Ohio Wesleyan.

OWU's Jackson led all scorers with his five goals, while Berger had a
team-high three goals and one assist for Denison. Bishop goalie Corey
Ayers stopped 14 Denison shots and his Big Red counterpart, Peter Royer,
made 10 saves on OWU attempts. Denison, which retained possession of the
ball for the majority of the game, outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 36-24.

OWU will return to conference action at home on April 21, hosting
Oberlin College, while the Big Red will remain at home to resume league
play when they entertain Wittenberg University on April 20
