Denison Reaches Semifinals with 11-6 win over the Sea Gulls
SALISBURY, Maryland? Junior attackmen Kip Hale and Jon Stauton scored three goals each
to led Denison to an 11-6 win over Salisbury State in the national quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III
Lacrosse Championships. The Big Red (12-3) advance to the semifinals for the second time in three seasons,
and will face the Gettysburg/Springfield winner next week.
Stauton scored two of his markers in the opening quarter as Denison jumped to a 4-0 lead and never trailed
in the game. Salisbury scored the first two goals of the second quarter to cut the lead in half, but
back-to-back goals by Hale pushed Denison's lead to 6-2 at halftime.
In the third period, goals by Salisbury's Chris Laurer and Ryan Shiley pulled the Sea Gulls back within two
at 6-4, but DU would answer with three straight goals by Hale, Stauton and Kevin Sullivan.
Goalie Peter Royer finished the game with nine saves for Denison. Salisbury's Pat Tewes finished with a
season-high 19 saves. Denison outshot Salisbury 41-31 and controlled 12 of 21 face-offs, including eight of
ten in the first half.
