GAME SUMMARY:

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- Defending NCAA Division III champion Salisbury State
University (Md.) invaded Denison's Barclay-Thomsen Field this afternoon
and defeated the host Big Red by a 16-12 score. Currently the top ranked
team in Division III, the Sea Gulls of Salisbury put together a five-goal
scoring run to open the third quarter, erasing an 8-7 halftime lead held
by Denison, and never trailed again.

Salisbury, now 15-0 on the season, was led offensively by senior attack
Joe High (Phoenix, Md.; Dulaney), who scored a game-high eight goals. High
set the pace early, notching four scores in the first quarter to lead SSU
to a 6-2 advantage in the first period. Sixth-ranked Denison (9-3) came
roaring back, however, tallying the final three goals the both the first
and second quarters to earn its one-goal lead at the intermission.

In the first half, Denison junior attack Sean O'Brien (Mountain Lakes,
N.J.; Mountain Lakes) and junior midfielder Brad Meyer (Devon, Pa.;
Conestoga) set the stage with two goals each, allowing senior middie Drew
Jones (Princeton Junction, N.J.; Peddie School) to tie the game at 7-7
with nine minutes on the second quarter clock, and sophomore attack Kip
Hale (Salida, Colo.; Pomfret [Conn.]) to give Denison the 8-7 lead 1:03
before halftime. High's fifth goal of the day was the Sea Gulls' only
score of the second stanza.

The momentum shifted back to SSU in the third period, as two goals from
High and single scores from senior midfielder Rob Bates (Arnold, Md.;
Severna Park), senior middie Chris Turner (Crofton, Md.; Arundel) and
senior attack Kevin Fox (Bohemia, N.Y.; Connetquot), put Salisbury up 12-8
with six minutes remaining in the quarter. Freshman attack Craig Rhodey
(Fallston, Md.; Calvert Hall) was credited with two assists during the Sea
Gulls' run. At that point, the Big Red began yet another comeback streak,
and for the third time in three quarters, Denison scored the final three
goals of the period. Jones hit the first at 4:45, and Hale scored back-to-
back goals in the final two minutes, cutting the Sea Gull lead to 12-11
with one quarter to go.

Salisbury found its offense again in the final period, outscoring the host
Big Red 4-1. SSU insurance goals came from Bates, junior long-stick Dave
DiPaola (Springfield, Pa.; Springfield) and senior midfielder Ryan
McKenzie (Sykesville, Md.; Mount St. Joseph), with a final exclamation
point coming in the form of High's eighth goal with 34 seconds remaining
and bringing the final score to 16-12.

In front of the Big Red goal the entire game was sophomore Peter Royer
(Avon, Conn.; Westminster), who made an impressive 24 saves against 16
goals. In net for the Sea Gulls in the first half was senior John Dodson
(Cambridge, Md.; Cambridge-South Dorchester) who came up with four saves
and allowed eight goals. In the second half, it was sophomore Pat Tewes
(Severna Park, Md.; Severna Park) making three saves while giving up four
scores. Salisbury's Turner was the game's assist leader with four.

There is no rest for either team as up next for the Big Red is third-
ranked Division II power C.W. Post out of Long Island, N.Y. Denison will
travel to a neutral field at Germantown Academy in Ft. Washington, Pa., to
meet the Pioneers on Saturday, April 29, at 12 p.m. The Sea Gulls will put
their perfect record on the line one more time this spring before the NCAA
playoffs at home in Salisbury against seventh-ranked Division III
Washington College (Md.) on Saturday, April 29, at 1 p.m.
