Granville, Ohio- Denison Softball split Tuesday's doubleheader, falling 6–4 in game one, then winning game two 1–0 behind Madilyn Moffitt's 10-strikeout shutout. The Big Red out-hit Marietta 19–8, highlighted by a three-run comeback in the opener.
Game One: Marietta 6, Denison 4
Despite out-hitting Marietta 11–6, Denison couldn't overcome early miscues and a late Pioneers push, falling 6–4 in Tuesday's opener.
Marietta capitalized on two first-inning errors to take a 2–0 lead, and added single runs in the fifth and sixth to go up 4–1. Denison's offense came alive in the third with a Brooke Surbaugh solo homer, and the Big Red surged in the sixth with a three-run rally: Carley Melton, Emerson Seevers, and Surbaugh each delivered an RBI to tie the game at 4–4.
The Pioneers answered in the seventh with the go-ahead RBI single, adding an insurance run to close it out.
Surbaugh had two hits and two RBIs. Denison totaled 11 hits but left runners stranded late.
Game Two: Denison 1, Marietta 0
Madilyn Moffitt was dominant, tossing another shutout with 10 strikeouts to lead Denison to a 1–0 win and a split with Marietta in Tuesday's twin bill.
Moffitt was untouchable from the circle, finishing with 7.0 innings, two hits, zero runs, two walks, and 10 strikeouts on 106 pitches. She retired 14 straight during one stretch and allowed just four total baserunners (two walks, one hit-by-pitch). The Big Red defense backed her with clean play, recording eight groundouts and three flyouts.
Denison broke the scoreless duel in the sixth when Leilah Ferrari lined an RBI single to left, scoring Liana "Seri" Su after Rosie Witt and Brianna Gonzalez helped load the bases.
The Big Red out-hit Marietta 8–2 and controlled the final innings behind Moffitt's overpowering performance.
