Granville, Ohio- In their final home meet of the regular season the No. 4 Denison women's swimming and diving team dominated the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan on Senior Day. The Big Red beat the Battling Bishops 222- 148, for its fourth duel win of the season. Denison notched 20 top times throughout the meet and officially swept the 100, 200 and 400 IM, the100 and 200 Breast, as well as the 100 and 200 Free.
Top performers:
Denison started the duel off strong, with a first place finish in the 100 Medley Relay with a time of 26.11. Four members of the Big Red women's team finished with multiple first place finishes. First was senior Emily Harris, who took first in the 200 IM (2:05.31 | B-cut) and the 400 IM (4:22.20| B-cut). Three other members of the Denison women's team would earn first place finishes in the swimming events. Jassy Park dominated the 100 and 200 Back, finishing in 57.35 in the 100 and 2:06.93 in the 200. Gwen Bakker continued to showcase her speed this weekend with first place finishes in the 100 (1:02.96 | B-cut) and 200 Breast (2:17.43 | B-cut). Rounding out the two-time first-place finishers was Anna Kuhel who took first in the 500 Free with a time of 5:14.06 and in the 1000 Free (10:39.76).
The Big Red never let off the pedal and tallied four official first-place finishes in the 100 and 200 Fly, as well as the 100 and 200 Free. In the 200 Fly senior Kayla Tehrani took first after swimming a 2:10.77, while fellow senior Caroline Cavalier took first place in the 100 Fly with a time of 58.91. The final two first place finishers were Ollie Morse, who swam the 100 Free in 51.50, and senior Quinn Brown finished the 200 Free in 1:51.57 (B-cut).
Diving Results:
In the Denison diving well, senior duo Lu-Si Minnich and Fernanda Anzures would finish first and second respectively in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dive. In the 1-meter Minnich scored a 503.55, which is a new Denison Varsity record for the 1-meter (11 dives) and a Regional qualifying score. The previous record was 499.73, which was recorded in 2018 by Allison Fitzgerald. Minnich would then go on to score a 507.53 in the 3-meter dive; securing her second Regional qualifying score and breaking the previous record of 484.28 by Allison Fitzgerald.
Teammate and fellow senior Anzures finished second in the 1-meter after scoring 336.30. She'd go on to score a 319.80 in the 3-meter tallied for her second, second-place finish of the day.
