Washington and Lee controlled the first half, taking a 5-1 lead after the first quarter and extending it to 7-3 at halftime. Denison's lone goal in the opening period came from Anna DeVuono, while Emersen Thompson and Maddie Chase added second-quarter tallies to keep the Big Red within striking distance.

Denison found its rhythm in the second half, outscoring the Generals 3-1 in the third quarter. Madison Goldstein and Anna DeVuono struck early in the period, cutting the deficit to 7-5. After WLU responded with a goal, Addie Clift found the net with two minutes left in the third quarter, bringing Denison within two.
