Alliance, Ohio- Securing their first win of the 2025 season, the No. 23 Denison women's lacrosse team defeated the University of Mount Union Raiders 13-7 on the road. With today's win, the Big Red improves to 1-2 for the season, while the Raiders move to 2-2.
A hot opening quarter of scoring by
Mary Martinson and
Anna DeVuono gave Denison an early 4-0 lead. In the second quarter, the Big Red kept its foot on the pedal, ballooning its lead 8-2 heading into the half. With six different goal-scorers in the first half, Denison's offense continued to move at a good clip, putting in another two goals for a 10-3 lead heading into the fourth.
The Big Red started the fourth quarter with a quick goal following a give-and-go between
Bridget Sheehy and
MK Barnhart in the first 15 seconds of the fourth. Sheehy would tack on her second goal after collecting a pass by teammate
Anna Nuckols to give Denison a commanding 12-4 lead. Though the Big Reds' lead was significant, the Raiders gave up its final goal of the game in the sixth minute and answered with three goals of their own in the final two minutes of regulation, cutting what was a nine-goal lead to just six by the time expired.
Eight different players scored in today's win over the Raiders. DeVuono and Martinson finished with a hat trick, while Sheehy totaled five points after scoring two goals and dishing out three assists for the day.

Grayson O'Marra,
Sophie Davenport, and
Mary Daniel scored the remaining five goals.
Earning her first victory of the season,
Julianne Henigan recorded her third matchup with double-digit saves (11) following her start in goal. Also finding time in goal for Denison was sophomore
Cate Dannahey, who recorded four saves for the night.
Denison finished the evening outshooting Mount Union 31-28 and held a significant edge of 17-7 in draw controls. However, the Raiders didn't give up their 13 goals easily; Mount Union managed to cause 18 turnovers throughout the matchup and held the Big Red to 20–29 in clear attempts for the day.
