ADRIAN, Mich. (September 2, 2023) – The second match in as many days for the Denison University women's soccer team resulted in a 1-1 tie for the Big Red at Adrian College on Saturday.

Sophia Connell netted the first goal of the match in the 21st minute, and Denison (1-0-1 overall) looked poised to pull out its second win in a row to open the season until an unfortunate foul led to a penalty kick goal for Adrian (0-1-1) in the 75th minute.
Less than a minute after the penalty kick, senior
Callie Davis' shot was saved by Adrian's Taylor Fischer.
Davis and Connell both finished with four shots for the Big Red with Connell putting two of her shots on target.
It was an even match with both teams firing four shots in the second half and both teams finishing with three shots on goal and two saves. In addition, corner kicks were 5-4 in favor of the Bulldogs and fouls were 12-11 with Adrian having the extra foul.
The Big Red will now return to Granville, Ohio, for a four-match homestand beginning with back-to-back matches on back-to-back days for the second weekend in a row. Their home opener will come against New Jersey City University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, followed by a match vs. John Carroll University at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 10.
