GAMBIER, Ohio (April 23, 2023) – Just one day after falling twice at the College of Wooster, the Denison University softball team went right back to action and was able to finish off the weekend in winning fashion with a sweep at Kenyon College on Sunday. The Big Red won 15-8 in game one and then 11-0 in five innings in game two.
Finishing the day with a combined 24 hits and 26 runs, Denison also got a home run in each game by
Jacqui Abogado.
Game 1 (Denison 15, Kenyon 8):
- A two-out rally starting with back-to-back singles by Brooke Surbaugh and Indy Workman led to a three-run home run to right field by Abogado in the first inning, and then another two-out rally starting with back-to-back walks by Abogado and Alessandra Groome led to two runs on a single by Clara Wolff in the third inning.
- Kenyon, however, matched Denison on the scoreboard through the first four innings until a big seven-run top of the fifth inning for the Big Red that proved to be the difference maker. That inning was highlighted by RBI-doubles by Maggie Ballentine and Brianna Gonzalez.
- Wolff finished 2-for-3 with two RBI's while Ballentine was 2-for-4 with two RBI's and two doubles and Abogado finished with four RBI's.
- In all, six different Denison players scored twice.
- Sophia Parpala (2-1) came in to pitch with two outs and runners at the corners in a tied ballgame (5-5) in the bottom of the third inning before proceeding to keep the Owls from scoring again until the final inning.

- Abogado continued her impressive game with a two-run double to make it 7-0 in the fourth inning before a two-run single by Groome, an RBI-double by Wolff and an RBI-groundout by Jordyn Maurer got it to 11-0 later on in the inning.
