Women’s lacrosse handles DePauw, matchup with No. 21 Kenyon up next

GRANVILLE, Ohio (April 19, 2023) – Led by a combined 12 goals from Jane Bailey, Josie Lucchesi, Allaire Kotz and Emma Repke, the Denison University women's lacrosse team defeated DePauw University by a final score of 15-8 to improve to 4-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference and setup a big matchup at home against No. 21-ranked Kenyon College this weekend.

Lucchesi was the playmaker early for Denison (6-8 overall), recording an assist on the opening goal of the game by Repke less than a minute in and then scoring back-to-back goals just 24 seconds apart to give the Big Red a 3-0 lead with just under eight minutes left in the first quarter.

Denison then led it 4-1 after the first quarter thanks to a goal by Anna DeVuono assisted by Ashley Viglione in the final two and a half minutes of the opening period.

Then after DePauw (9-3, 1-2) made it 4-2 early in the second quarter, the Big Red scored three straight goals by Maddie Morrell, Bailey and Lucchesi, all within a two-minute span, to take control up 7-2.

In all, the Big Red scored four goals in each of the first three quarters as Bailey scored in the final 16 seconds of the first half to make it 8-3 before Repke scored again to make it 9-3 less than a minute into the third quarter.

Bailey would finish with a season-high six points (4 goals, 2 assists) while Lucchesi tied her career-high with five points (3 goals, 2 assists).

Kotz, the reigning NCAC Women's Lacrosse Athlete of the Week, had four points (2 goals, 2 assists), giving her a grand total of 18 points through the last three games, while Repke scored three goals for the second game in a row.

Morrell and Lucchesi also led Denison with three groundballs while Lucchesi and Repke led with two caused turnovers and Mary Daniel added five draw controls.

Denison and No. 21 Kenyon will square off starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, inside Piper Stadium. The Owls will bring a record of 13-0 overall into the contest and have not lost a conference game in either of the last two seasons.
