COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 13, 2023) – The Denison University women's lacrosse team started off its Spring Break trip with a 16-9 win over St. Mary's College of Maryland in a neutral-site matchup at Colorado College on Monday.

Denison led 1-0 after a free position goal by Jane Bailey in the opening minute and a half of the game before falling behind 2-1 later in the first quarter.

However, a goal by Josie Lucchesi with two and a half minutes left in the opening period tied it before Jane Lukens scored in the final 13 seconds of the quarter to put the Big Red back ahead at 3-2.

The Denison lead then grew to 6-2 after three straight goals by Emma Repke, Allaire Kotz and Lucchesi to open up the second quarter.

In all, Denison would lead 8-4 at halftime before dominating the Seahawks 6-1 in the third quarter and limiting them to only four shots in the period to pull away.

Lucchesi scored twice in the third quarter to bring her goal total up to four before Anna DeVuono scored the final two goals of the period and then opened the scoring less than a minute into the fourth quarter with her third goal in a row to make it 15-6 Big Red.

Denison's final goal was the first career goal for freshman Lucy Cavanaugh.

Allaire Kotz led Denison with five groundballs while freshman Bridget Sheehy had four draw controls.

In goal, Caroline O'Dea finished with 10 saves and a season-best .588 save percentage.

With its second win in a row, Denison moves to 2-4 overall on the season while St. Mary's College of Maryland fell to 3-4.

Game number two of Denison's Spring Break trip will see the Big Red battle the hosts from Colorado College at 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time / 5 p.m. Mountain Standard Time on Friday, March 17.
