Denison earns four NCAC Athlete of the Week awards

GRANVILLE, Ohio (April 18, 2022) – Denison University Athletics earned four North Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week awards for the week ending on Sunday, March 17. Kenny Lippman was named the Baseball Pitcher of the Week, Davis Cronin earned Men's Lacrosse Athlete of the Week, Casey McTague was named the Women's Lacrosse Athlete of the Week, and Chris Slater was the Men's Field Athlete of the Week.

Kenny Lippman, a senior right-handed pitcher from McLean, Virginia, struck out 10 Hiram batters during his six innings of work in game two on Saturday. Lippman allowed only three hits while not walking anyone en route to a combined 10-0 shutout victory for the Big Red. Lippman has now pitched six innings allowing three hits and no walks with at least seven strikeouts in each of his last two games.

Davis Cronin, a senior faceoff player from South Boston, Massachusetts, was a combined 31-for-40 on faceoffs (77.5 percent) while adding 19 groundballs during a 2-0 week in which the Big Red handed both Oberlin (W 16-9) and Ohio Wesleyan (W 13-8) their first conference losses of the season. Denison moved into sole possession of first place in the NCAC standings at the end of the week.

Casey McTague, a senior midfielder from Arlington, Virginia, started her week by tying Denison's single-game goals record with nine goals at Wittenberg on Wednesday, matching the record originally set by Lauren Peace on April 12, 2000, also against Wittenberg. McTague then added a hat trick vs. Oberlin on Saturday to finish with 12 total goals. She also had eight draw controls and seven groundballs on the week.

Chris Slater, a freshman from Hudson, Ohio, was named Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this year after winning the hammer with a new Denison school record of 54.66 meters while also taking fourth place in the shot put (12.27 meters) to help the Big Red win the Wooster Dual Meet on Wednesday. Then on Saturday, Slater finished fourth in the discus (39.3 meters) and eighth in the shot put (12.52 meters) as Denison captured the All-Ohio Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the first time in program history.
