Home meet caps off regular season

The Big Red women's track & field team captured five event titles at the Denison Invitational on Friday in Granville, Ohio. The event served as the final meet before next weekend's North Coast Athletic Conference Championship held at Ohio Wesleyan.

The freshman trio of Arlesha Cospy, Allison Pineault and Hannah Hall posted four of the team's five victories. Cospy won both the shot put and discus with a pair of personal-best performances. The freshman thrower's first win came in the shot put where she had a heave of 40'2.25", which was a 2'2.25" improvement from her previous PR mark. That performance also moved her into second on the top performer's list. Cospy also had a personal record in the discus with a toss of 136'5", 5'4" better than her previous mark.

Pineault tied the school's outdoor record in the pole vault after successfully clearing 10'6", a mark originally set by Emily Hammeran in 2009. The freshman's performance was 5.25" improvement on her previous outdoor PR. Senior Kristen Geary was tied for third in the pole vault with a mark of 9'6.25".

Hall earned the high jump title with a mark of 5'3.25". Denison's fifth title came in the 1,500-meter run where junior Kate Benson posted a personal-best time of 4:53.51. Benson's time moved her into 10th-place on the school's top performer's list. Placing fourth behind Benson was senior Abbi Boss who clocked in at 4:58.56, while Geary was ninth with a time of 5:16.43.

In the 800 run, freshman Phoebe Osterhout finished runner up after crossing the line in 2:27.98, while freshman Caroline Fontes took ninth in 2:37.90. Lindsey Studebaker placed fifth in the 3,000-meter run at 11:37.54. Claire Barcelo was eighth in the event, posting a time of 11:50.81.

In field-event action, junior Rebecca Fritch posted a pair of personal records, which included one school record. Fritch surpassed Emily Handelman's school-record mark (110'7") in the hammer with a toss of 115'1". In addition to her performance in the hammer throw, Fritch also PRed in the discus with a throw of 103'5".

Sophomore Anne Lee finished runner up in the triple jump with a combined leap of 33'3". Lee also took fourth in the long jump with a final mark of 14'7.75". Senior Kendra Epstein was seventh in the long jump after posting a leap of 14'0.50".

The Big Red returns to competition next weekend at the 2015 NCAC Tournament. Friday's field events are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m., while the running events will kick off at 3 p.m.
