DU women take sixth in Gambier

Denison scored in nine different events, including two record-breaking performances, on Saturday afternoon at the Kenyon Spring Invitational.

One week removed from re-setting her own record in the triple jump, Denison junior Aedin Brennan accomplished the feat once again at Kenyon. Brennan won the triple jump event with a combined leap of 38'4.25", which was a 5-inch improvement on her previous school record. The New York native was done, however, as she also improved on her school-record mark in the long jump. Brennan won the event with a jump of 18'5", besting her previous record by 6.50". The junior's third victory of the day came in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.01. In all, Brennan totaled 30 points on Saturday.

Also helping the cause in both the long and triple jumps was Anne Lee, who posted a pair of fifth-place finishes. Lee posted a combined mark of 33'9.50" in the triple jump and a leap of 15'6" in the long jump. Freshman Jessica Nix rounded out the scoring for DU in the long jump with an eighth-place performance (15'0"). Nix also added a points to the Big Red total with an eighth-place showing in the 100 hurdles. The freshman completed the race in 16.86, which bested her previous personal record by 54 hundredths of a second.

The Big Red's fourth title came in the high jump where freshman Hannah Hall successfully cleared 5'3.25" en route to winning the event. Nix finished fifth (4'6.25") behind Hall. Freshman Arlesha Cospy posted a pair of top-3 finishes. Cospy was runner-up in the shot put with a toss of 37'0.50". She also placed third in the discus with a PR mark of 133'1", an 8'1" improvement on her previous personal record. That performance also moved Cospy into second on the school's top performers list.  Rebecca Fritch took eighth in the discus with a PR performance of 102'10".

Rounding out the scoring for DU were freshman Allison Pineault, junior Lindsey Studebaker and senior Kristen Geary. Pineault finished fourth in the pole vault after clearing 9'6.25", while Studebaker and Geary both scored in the 5,000-meter run. Studebaker was seventh (20:35.51), and Geary took ninth (20:45.34).

Allegheny took home the title with 148 points, while Otterbein (137) and Oberlin (118) placed second and third, respectively. Wooster (96), Kenyon (84), Denison, Muskingum (15), Rio Grande (9) and Mount Vernon Nazarene (8) represented the rest of the team standings.

The Big Red returns to action next Friday (April 24) when they host their annual home meet as a final tune-up for the NCAC Championship held at Ohio Wesleyan University on May 1-2.
