Denison competes at Ron Althoff

The Big Red women's track and field team sent a small group of athletes to the Ron Althoff Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on Monday in Delaware, Ohio. This meet was DU's final tune-up before the 2014 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship held at OWU's George Gauthier Track in Delaware, Ohio.

Denison posted one victory at the event when the 4x100 relay team of Kiki Yewer, Olivia Ireland, Aedin Brennan and Tiffany Davis finished the race with a combined time of 49.05. Their mark was 45 hundredths of a second shy of their season-best performance of 48.60 at the 2014 North Coast Athletic Conference Championship.

In addition to her victory in the 4x100, Brennan also recorded three top-8 performances. The sophomore finished third in both the 800 run and the long jump. She ran a personal-best time of 2:19.10 in the 800 and registered a mark of 17'5.50" in the long jump.

The duo of senior Olivia Galano and sophomore Kate Benson represented the Big Red in the 1500-meter run on Monday afternoon. Galano completed the race in 4:50.55 en route to a sixth-place finish, while Benson's time of 5:09.71 landed her in 15th place. The sophomore's performance was a personal-best mark for her in the event.

With one weekend of competition left before the NCAA Division III Championship meet, three Denison athletes are in line to qualify for nationals. Davis currently ranks in the top-20 in both the 200 (13th) and 100 (18th), while Galano boasts the 17th fastest 10,000-meter time. Brennan is fourth in the heptathlon, an event she earned All-American honors in last season.

The 2014 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship is scheduled to begin on Thursday, May 22 and run through Saturday, May 24 at George Gauthier Track on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University. Thursday's events are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
