Brennan takes 3rd at All-Ohio Heptathlon

Denison sophomore Aedin Brennan took third with 4,329 points at the first-ever Division III All-Ohio Heptathlon on Sunday afternoon at the University of Mount Union.

On Saturday, Brennan competed in the 100-meter hurdles, the high jump, the shot put and the 200-meter dash.  The DU sophomore opened the event with a sixth-place finish in the 100-hurdles after completing the race with a time of 16.52.  After a 10th-place performance in the high jump (4'7.75"), Brennan rebounded with a runner-up performance in the shot put after a toss of 32'11.75".  In the final event of the day, she finished third overall in the 200 dash with a time of 27.12.  That performance earned her 702 points, her highest point total of the day.

Sunday's portion of the heptathlon featured the long jump, javelin and 800-meter run.  Brennan opened up day two with a third-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 16'10".  She also took third in the javelin after throwing the spear 106'05".  The sophomore recorded her best finish of the weekend in the final event of the combined events.  Brennan won the 800-meter event with a time of 2:22.48 to earn 790 points. Her time was two seconds faster than Wooster's Hilary Coady, who finished second.

Baldwin-Wallace's Melanie Winters won the event with 4,743 points, while Kim Bingley of Defiance College placed second with 4,471 tallies.  Brennan was third, while Mount Union's Veronica Clutter (4,176) and Coady (4,029) rounded out the top five.

Brennan and the Big Red return to action on Saturday at the 2014 All-Ohio Division III Championship hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.
