The Denison women's track and field team placed fifth out of 10 teams at the annual Marv Frye Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday. As a team, the Big Red scored 67 points.
Denison senior Tiffany Davis won the 100-meter dash with a school-record performance. Davis finished the race with a time of 12.19, breaking Jackie Berner's previous mark by six hundredths of a second. Berner set the previous school record in 2003. Also scoring in the 100 dash was sophomore Kiki Yewer. Yewer turned in a personal-best performance of 12.99, which landed her in sixth place. The sophomore sprinter is now eighth on the school's top performers list. The duo of Davis and Yewer also finished in the top-5 in the 200-meter dash. Davis picked up her second title of the day with a time of 24.77, while Yewer's time of 26.99 landed her in fifth place.
Freshman jumper Anne Lee scored 12 individual points, highlighted by a victory in the triple jump. Lee won the event with a combined jump of 33'4.75". Lee also placed seventh in the long jump with a mark of 15'6.25". Sophomore Emily Lamm finished runner-up in the 5000-meter event after posting a personal-best time of 18:21.76. The performance landed Lamm in seventh on the school's top performers list.
The duo of senior Olivia Galano and junior Abbi Boss placed second and third, respectively, in the 1500-meter run after posting personal-best performances. Galano crossed the finish line in 4:50.35, while Boss' time of 4:50.68 landed her seventh on the school's top performers list. Also scoring for the Big Red was freshman Olivia Ireland who took seventh in the 400 dash with a time of 1:05.51.
In the 4x100 relay, the team of Yewer, Lee, Ireland and Kendra Esptein placed fourth with a time of 53.06. Sophomore Marina Townsend moved onto the school's top performers list after recording a mark of 77'9" in the javelin. Townsend is now tied for 10th in the event.
Ohio Wesleyan captured the team title with 198 points, while Baldwin Wallace finished second with 100.50 points. Ohio Northern took third (84.50), while Heidelberg (81) and Denison rounded out the top-five spots in the team standings.
Denison returns to Delaware, Ohio next Saturday for the annual All-Ohio Division III Championship. Events are scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.
