Denison fares well at home

Denison hosted the unscored Big Red Invitational on Friday night in Granville and turned in six, first-place performances.

Senior sprinter Tiffany Davis led DU with victories in the 100 and 200 dash. She was also a part of Denison's second place 4x400 relay team.  In the 100 meter dash, Davis posted a time of 12.32 that was just off her school-record time of 12.15 set last week.

In the 200 meter dash, Davis turned in a time of 24.66 to win.  That also just missed her school record time of 24.58 set in 2012.  In the 4x400, Davis teamed with Olivia Ireland, Kiki Yewer, and Emily Lamm for a time of 4:19.30.  Wooster won the event in 4:10.67.

In the 1,500 meter run, DU went 1-2 in the standings as Kate Benson won with a time of 5:10.11.  Her teammate, Macey Thornburg, was right behind in 5:11.48.  Lamm would round out Denison's top finishers with a runner-up performance in the 800 meters with a time of 2:23.61.

In field events, Denison's Kristen Geary cleared 9'6.25" to finish in a tie for first place in the pole vault. First-year Anne Lee won the long jump with a leap of 16'3" and was the champ in the triple jump after covering a distance of 33'4".

In the javelin throw, junior Marina Townsend took second-place with a throw of 86'3", edging out third-place Devin Johns of Wooster by just over one foot.

Denison will return to action on May 2-3 at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship, hosted by Oberlin College.
