The Denison women's track and field team sent athletes to both the Jesse Owens Track Classic and the Kenyon Spring Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Tiffany Davis and sophomore Aedin Brennan both set school marks at the Jesse Owens Classic hosted by The Ohio State University. Davis ran in both the 100 and 200-meter events on Saturday in Columbus. The senior sprinter opened the day with a school-record performance in the 100-meter dash. Davis surpassed her own school record after clocking in with a time of 12.15 en route to a 19th-place finish. She set the previous school mark (12.19) two weeks ago at the Marv Frye Invitational. An hour and 45 minutes later, Davis took 13th in the 200 with a time of 24.66.
Brennan also bested her own school record in the 400-meter hurdles. On March 29 at the Carnegie Mellon Mini-Invite, the sophomore won the 400 hurdles with a school-record time of 1:03.98. Three weeks removed from that performance, Brennan improved on that mark after crossing the line in 1:03.86. That time was good enough for a 16th-place finish.
In Gambier, the Big Red accumulated eight points after scoring in three events at the Kenyon Spring Invite. Marina Townsend led the way with a fourth-place finish in the javelin. Townsend's mark of 88'10 was an 11'1" improvement on her previous personal record. That mark also moved her into ninth on the school's top performers list.
Junior Kristen Geary and sophomore Lindsey Studebaker also provided points for DU. Geary tied her PR in the pole vault after clearing 10'0". That height earned her seventh place in the event. Studebaker finished eighth in the 5,000-meter run after clocking in at 20:17.74.
Ohio Wesleyan won the event with 115 points, while Oberlin (107.5) and Wooster (88) finished second and third, respectively. Ohio Athletic Conference schools Ohio Northern (80.5) and Otterbein (75.5) rounded out the top five spots.
Denison returns to action on Friday when they host the annual Denison Big Red Invitational. Field events are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m., while running events are slated to start at 5 p.m.
