Big Red opens weekend at OSU

The Denison women's track and field team opened Easter weekend at the annual Jesse Owens Track Classic hosted by The Ohio State University on Friday in Columbus, Ohio.

The Big Red had four athletes compete on the opening day of the two-day event.  Senior Olivia Galano, junior Abbi Boss and sophomore Emily Lamm were all part of the distance festivities on Friday night.

Galano was part of the 19-athlete 5,000-meter showcase.  The senior distance runner bested her previous personal record (18:42.89) in the outdoor 5K by over a minute.  Galano crossed the finish line in 17:42.64, which moved her from 10th to second on the school's top performers list.

Boss and Lamm both participated in the 1500-meter event.  Boss ran a personal-best time of 4:48.44, surpassing her previous PR by 2.24 seconds.  That performance also moved the junior into sixth on the Denison outdoor top performers list.  Lamm finished just behind her teammate with a time of 4:53.19.

The fourth piece of the quartet was sophomore Aedin Brennan.  Brennan competed in the javelin earlier in the day, but fouls on her three attempts kept her from recording a mark.

Denison will send four student athletes to the Jesse Owens Classic on Saturday. On the women's side, Brennan and Tiffany Davis will see action in two events each.  Brennan will compete in the triple jump and the 400-meter hurdles, while Davis will run both the 100 and 200-meter dashes.  The men's team will be represented by Quenton Richards and Wallace Branche.  Richards will be part of the men's 100 dash field, while Branche will compete in the men's triple jump.
