The Denison women's outdoor track and field team tied for fourth place after scoring 85 points at the Carnegie Mellon Mini Invitational on Saturday in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The Big Red posted four victories and eight top-3 finishes at Saturday's event. Freshman Emily Lamm led DU with victories in the 1500 and 800-meter events. Lamm won the 1500 with a time of 4:48.45, which ranks fifth on Denison's top performers list. The freshman completed the 800-meter run in 2:24.07.
Also picking up victories at Carnegie Mellon were Aedin Brennan, the reigning North Coast Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week, and Michelle Clark. Brennan won the triple jump with a school-record leap of 35-06.50. That jump bested the previous school record held by Megan Whiteside (34-05.00) by more than a foot. Brennan also finished runner up in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:06.72. Her time lands her in third place on DU's all-time performers list. Jillian Reagan finished in 1:17.35 en route to a fifth-place finish.
Clark's first-place finish came in the 5,000-meter run. The senior completed the race in 17:56.64, a time that ranks second on the school's top performers list. First-year Mollie Evans also scored in the 5,000. Evans took fifth after crossing the line in 20:47.88.
Beth Armitage and Kristen Geary posted second-place finishes in the 400 and pole vault, respectively. Armitage clocked in at 1:06.85, while Geary cleared 9-04.25. Freshman Kiki Yewer logged a pair of top-5 finishes on the day. Yewer finished third in the 100-meter dash (13.56) and fifth in the 200 (28.23).
Freshman Ashley Bartreau placed fourth in the 3,000 steeplechase after completing the race in 12:37.89, while classmate Rebecca Fritch took sixth in the discus with a toss of 97-04. The 4x400 relay team of Yewer, Lamm, Armitage and Brennan rounded out the scoring with a fourth-place finish. The foursome combined for a time of 4:24.60.
The Big Red returns to action next Saturday at the Marv Frye Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.
