Branche takes 7th at NCAC Heptathlon

Freshman Wallace Branche finished seventh in the 13-athlete field at the 2013 North Coast Athletic Conference Heptathlon this weekend in Wooster, Ohio.  Branche scored 4,026 points and posted six top-8 finishes.

After day one, the rookie sat in fourth place in the overall standings with 2,334 points.  Branche's day-one highlight was a fourth-place finish in the high jump.  The freshman cleared 5-09.25 en route to scoring 593 points.   Branche opened the event with a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter dash (7.54).  After placing seventh in the long jump with a leap of 18-05.75, the first-year athlete took fifth in the shot put with a toss of 35-04.50.

On day two, Branche scored 704 points in the 60 hurdles after placing eighth with a time of 9.19.  He followed that up with a seventh-place finish in the pole vault (11-01.75).  Branche closed out the heptathlon with 531 points in the 1,000-meter run.  The freshman took 13th after clocking in at 3:14.28.

Ohio Wesleyan's Matt Hunger edged out teammate and two-time defending champ Andrew Diehl by 83 points.  With this seventh-place finish, Branche earned Denison two points that will carry over to the NCAC Championship next weekend.
