The 2012 North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship is underway in Meadville, Pa. and the Denison women sit in eighth-place after the first day of competition.
DU has totaled eight points thanks to a fourth-place finish from Katherine Sylvia in the discus and a sixth-place finish from Kristen Geary in the pole vault.
Sylvia posted a throw of 121'6" in the discus and she returned in the shot put with a throw of 31'4.5" to place 13th.
In the pole vault, Geary cleared 9'8" to take sixth. Teammate Ashlee Dickson placed 10th by clearing 9'2.25".
In the 100 and 200 meter dash preliminaries, Tiffany Davis turned in career-best times and placed first in both prelim races. In the 100, she matched a career-best with a time of 12.52 seconds. She returned in the 200 meter dash and tied the NCAC record in 25.04. Davis will seek her first conference title tomorrow when running in the finals of each event.
Other top finishers on Friday included senior Ani Mutafova who qualified for the finals in the 800 meters with a sixth-place showing and a time of 2:22.22.
